When the transaction was concluded, he was informed that the bank had been robbed. A bank employee requested that he provide his personal identifying information before exiting, and an NYPD officer asked him if he had seen anything, and he told her he had not. Later, Jack went to his workplace, the Friends of Crown Heights Educational Center, Inc. While at work, Jack received a call from a police officer asking him about the robbery and stating that the officer wanted to go to his workplace to receive a statement from him. Jack then went to the principal's office to explain the situation and found 2 plainclothes officers, who took him to a separate room for questioning. Plaintiff recounted his transaction at the bank, and the officers told him that they did not believe the story and arrested him. Jack requested the officers not put him in handcuffs in front of the children and his coworkers, but the officers replied that they did not care and he was going to lose his job anyway. These handcuffs were excessively tight, causing him pain and numbness, and the officers refused to loosen them when he complained. At the precinct, plaintiff was interrogated further and placed in a lineup. He was not identified as the perpetrator of the crime and was released from custody.
