Defendants pursued this prosecution with malice and in retaliation for her failure to cooperate in identifying pimps for the NYPD and DA's office. Defendants misled the grand jury regarding exculpatory information, including Plaintiff's status as a survivor of abuse and ongoing coercion in a sex and human trafficking scheme.  Plaintiff was convicted and imprisoned where she was separated from her two young children. Plaintiff was eventually released from prison, and her her convictions vacated on August 30, 2022 in recognition of her status as a survivor of sex and human trafficking. \n\nPlaintiff was trafficked and Defendants knew that Plaintiff was a victim of sex and human trafficking. On multiple occasions, the Individual Defendants, including Defendant Detective John Caspers, witnessed evidence of sex abuse and trafficking against multiple women. Individual Defendants arrested and/or were directly aware of Plaintiff's trafficker's arrest for domestic violence against Plaintiff. Neighbors who heard about Plaintiffs abuse repeatedly called the police. In around 2010, Defendant Detective Capers referred to Mr. Jenkins (Plaintiff's trafficker) as Plaintiff's \"pimp.\" Defendant ADA Jason Petri tried to get Plaintiff to identify pimps, promising to give her a more favorable outcome in her prostitution case if she did so, but Plaintiff feared for life if she revealed any names.
