Two uniformed officers stopped Ms. Bowman and demanded identification from her and her friend. Ms. Bowman presented her driver's license, which showed where she lived. One of the officers said to Ms. Bowman that she was trespassing, and she responded that she was a resident of one of the houses on the complex. She added that she did not understand how the officers could patrol this complex without knowing which addresses are within it. One of the officers called Ms. Bowman a \"smart ass\" and told her that she would be arrested. Ms. Bowman was handcuffed and searched, including her handbag. The officers found nothing but placed her in a police van and took her to a nearby NYPD station house. She was taken to the front desk and one of the officers took her handbag and walked away. When the officer returned he was carrying a large ziplock bad, with smaller ziplocks inside. He said that it contained marijuana, and falsely claimed it had been found in Ms. Bowman's handbag. \n\nMs. Bowman was detained for a period of time and then transported to Queens County Central Booking, and held for an additional period of time. While Ms. Bowman was detained, Police Officer Oldson Ajesulas (Shield 13641) completed paperwork, falsely claiming (i) she observed Ms. Bowman in the lobby of NYCHA building in which she was trespassing; (ii) she saw Ms. Bowman in possession of marijuana in a public place open to public view; (iii) she recovered \"1 ziplock of marijuana\" from Ms. Bowman's hand at the time of arrest, and (iv) she recovered a plastic bag containing \"8 ziplocks of marijuana from [plaintiff's] purse.\" Police Officer Ajesulas forwarded the false allegations to the Queens County District Attorney in order to justify the arrest and to commence prosecution. Ms. Bowman was charged with unlawfully possessing marijuana and criminal trespass. After at least one court appearance, the case was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal.","documents":[{"url":"https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nyed.350859/gov.uscourts.nyed.350859.1.0.pdf","type":"complaint"}],"url":"https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/13050624/bowman-v-city-of-new-york/"},{"name":"Simmons, Malcolm vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2013-07-29","disposition_date":"2014-04-08","payout_amount":15000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"13CV00973","court":"U.S. District Court - Eastern District NY","officer_name":"Aljesulas, Oldson","summary":"On November 18, 2011, Plaintiff was walking in an NYCHA community when a police van began following him.
