Being informed by a civilian vehicle of a fight, police officers Sanchez and Holland drove towards the site and started beating plaintiff Mr. Manzano, with the help of a gun. As a result of the brutal battery, Mr. Manzano suffered permanent cognitive impairment, including memory loss. He also lost consciousness and later received 20 staples in his head and stiches to his forehead. He was thereafter charged with two counts of assault, resisting arrest, robbery, and two counts of possession of a firearm, all of the charges having been dismissed.
