Several supervisors on the scene failed to intervene, took part in the beating, and denied Mr. Copes medical care. The officers arrested Mr. Copes and charged him with various crimes. During the course of Mr. Copes' custody, the officers delayed medical treatment, though Mr. Copes was eventually transported to a hospital. The officers fabricated paperwork and falsified documents stating that Mr. Copes was in possession of a weapon and had resisted arrest along with committing other offenses.
