As he opened his driver side door, a cyclist on an e-bike collided with the door, causing him to crash. The Plaintiff and his passenger offered to bring the cyclist to the hospital and otherwise provided assistance to him for 45 minutes. The cyclist insisted he was okay. \nOn September 16, 2021, the Plaintiff was handcuffed, arrested, searched and detained for hit and run offences for the August 26th incident. He was incarcerated for over 24 hours at Manhattan Criminal Court. The Plaintiff, age 66 and a longtime member of the State Legislature had never had a past involvement with the justice system. The Plaintiff was threatened and intimidated by other inmates while incarcerated and left feeling deeply ashamed and depressed. \nNot only was the Plaintiff falsely accused of the crime, but the NYPD's response was grossly disproportionate given the circumstances. \nDet.
