Despite the plaintiff trying to stop the assault and the victim confirming to the defendant officers upon their arrival that the plaintiff was not the perpetrator, officer John Veloz and officers John/Jane Doe 1-10 nonetheless aggressively applied handcuffs in a tight fashion to the plaintiff and took him to an NYPD precinct where he was subject to further indignities. At no point did any of the defendant officers observe the plaintiff commit a crime, nor did they have reason to justify their stop, seizure, search and arrest of the plaintiff. Based on racially motivated biases, the defendant officers then made false claims in order to prosecute the plaintiff. Additionally, they destructed and concealed exculpatory evidence such as body cam recordings that could have exonerated the plaintiff.
