Fearing escalation, Plaintiff opened the door, at which point police officers entered, arrested two men in the back room, and told Plaintiff and her cousin they were under arrest. Officer Sidneus did not verify whether Plaintiff had any connection to the residence before handcuffing her, despite her protests that she had done nothing wrong. Despite the Plaintiff's inquiries, officers refused to read them their Miranda rights. Plaintiff was initially taken to the PSA 8 precinct, where she was held without any explanation for her arrest, and officers denied her request to make a phone call. She was then transferred to the 43rd precinct, where officers interrogated her about alleged illegal gun possession without the presence of an attorney. The Plaintiff denied any knowledge of the weapons, and even then officers still failed to inform her of the reason for her arrest.\n\nEventually, the Plaintiff was taken to Central Booking, where she remained handcuffed for four hours and subjected to a search of her purse. Inside, officers found a can of mace. Officer Sidneus listed the possession of pepper spray as a charge in police reports but did not draft an accusatory instrument. After spending twenty hours in police custody, the Plaintiff was notified that the case against her had been dismissed. On September 24, 2021, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office confirmed that no accusatory instrument had been filed against her.","documents":[{"url":"https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=MK6ejgpWUPKfIUiDdB06EA==","type":"complaint"}]},{"name":"Rivera, Leslie vs City of Ny, et al.","start_date":"2021-03-09","disposition_date":"2022-10-12","payout_amount":8061,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"20CV09968","court":"U.S. District Court - Southern District NY","summary":"On October 5, 2017 plaintiff was riding his electric bicycle when several police approached from an unmarked vehicle with guns drawn.
