The defendant NYPD officers approached the car and asked for his license and registration. He gave them his learner permit, the registration, and the rental agreement, and explained that it was his mother's rental car, and that he was waiting for her. Mr. Jackson gave the defendants his mother's phone number. After about forty-five minutes, the defendants wrote a ticket for driving a motor vehicle without the supervision and control of a licensed driver, and they arrested Mr. Jackson. They did not tell him why he was being arrested. They brought him to the police precinct and strip searched him in the bathroom, including a cavity search. The search did not reveal any contraband. Mr. Jackson was then brought to central booking. The defendants wrote up a report which they forwarded to the District Attorney that included the assertion that Hertz requested Mr. Jackson be arrested. This statement was false, as the defendants knew. The D.A declined to prosecute Mr. Jackson, and he was released after approximately 15 hours in police custody.","documents":[{"url":"https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nyed.366727/gov.uscourts.nyed.366727.11.0.pdf","type":"complaint"}],"url":"https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/13242096/jackson-v-city-of-new-york/"},{"name":"Lawrence, Brian vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2015-01-22","disposition_date":"2015-07-09","payout_amount":20000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"15CV00294","court":"U.S. District Court - Eastern District NY","officer_name":"Khazin, Valentin","summary":"On July 8, 2014, plaintiff was speaking with friends as they stood on the sidewalk. Officers including Michael Rositano & Mark Raile confronted the group and demanded identification. When one of plaintiff's friends questioned why, officers told him to \"shut up\" and pushed him to the ground. Plaintiff asked why they'd pushed him, and officers grabbed him and slammed him face-first into a gate. They arrested plaintiff and his friends, handcuffing plaintiff excessively tightly (causing scarring). Rositano falsely charged plaintiff with unlawful assembly, disorderly conduct, and loitering for the purpose of gambling, with the approval of Raile, Sgt. Valentin, and the other officers. Upon questioning from ADA Pantelis, Rositano admitted no officers had seen plaintiff roll dice or exchange money.
