An officer struck plaintiff Luis Jame on his back with a closed fist while plaintiff was walking away from a safe. Plaintiff's life savings, constituting $6,000, were taken by the arresting officers, along with $47,000 belonging to plaintiff Javier Jaime. Officers later returned $34,378 of plaintiff Javier Jaime's appropriated funds, but not the remainder of the funds. The search, during which officers refused to present a warrant, resulted in the damage or destruction of numerous items, including plaintiffs' Playstation Portable console, X-box console, computer, and television. Prosecutors declined to prosecute Shamarlon.
