On the same day, the actual perpetrator of the crime gave himself up and took full responsibility for the incident. Despite this, Defendants illegally approached and falsely accused Plaintiff of criminal acts. Defendants than seized Plaintiff, searched his person by aggressively shoving their hands into his clothes, and then violently contorting his arms and wrists behind his back to which they handcuffed him in an excessively tight fashion - causing Plaintiff to experience bruises, swelling, and other pain. Plaintiff requested the handcuffs to be loosed, but his pleas were ignored. Defendant Brito signed and forwarded a criminal court complaint to the DA's Office, in which he knowingly affirmed the truth of fabricated allegations against Plaintiff. Plaintiff asserts that he was illegally targeted for violent retaliation by Defendants because of his race, color, ethnicity or national origin. \n\nPlaintiff was wrongfully detained over four and a half years.","documents":[{"url":"https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=bXjwvjEU1CvZa6a3Hxgsow==","type":"complaint"}]},{"name":"Basdeo, Dhaneshram vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2020-06-11","disposition_date":"2021-09-22","payout_amount":50000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"025609/2020E","court":"Supreme Court - Bronx","officer_name":"Brito, Juan","summary":"On September 7, 2019, plaintiff was legally in the vicinity of 3016 Webster Avenue, Bronx, when defendant police officers, without any probable cause or legal justification, approached plaintiff for no reason other than his age/race and summarily stopped, searched, grabbed, assaulted, battered, and detained him in an excessive manner.
