Police officers forced the plaintiff and her friend against a bench, ordering the crowd to disperse, which they could not do because they were being held by the officers. The plaintiff managed to free herself and began to disperse when she saw another friend being assaulted by the police. She verbally responded to the officers' misconduct and covered her friend, leading the defendants to batter and assault her. The plaintiff was thrown to the ground, kneed, struck, and placed in an illegal chokehold, restricting her airflow. She was tightly restrained with plastic Rip-Ties around her wrists and forced into a police vehicle without being secured by a seat belt, and taunted by the defendants during transport. At the precinct, she was illegally searched, shackled, placed in a holding cell, and detained for several hours. The plaintiff was threatened with hospitalization if she did not remain quiet. When she did not comply, she was taken to Bellevue Hospital in handcuffs against her will and in retaliation for speaking out while detained, where she was examined for mental health disorders. After the hospital, she was transferred back to the precinct and held until she was issued a DAT/Summons.
