The motorist's car batter had died. Mr. Crawford parked across the street from the motorist. As Mr. Crawford was to the motorist's car with equipment to jump start their car, NYPD Officers jumped out of an unmarked car and began yelling at Mr. Crawford. When the Officers reached Mr. Crawford, the grabbed his arms and began kicking at his legs. They handcuffed Mr. Crawford and pushed him against his own car, while continuing to kick at his legs. The Officers told Mr. Crawford that he was being arrested because his car was stolen. Mr. Crawford informed the Officers that he had owned his car for about three years. The Officers searched the vehicle without consent. The Officers demanded that Mr. Crawford sit on the curb. Mr. Crawford was unable to because of previous knee surgeries. Mr. Crawford demanded to be released. This made the Officers angry and more aggressive.\n\nThe Officers took Mr. Crawford to the 6th Precinct. Officer Collarini admitted that Mr. Crawford's car was not stolen, but explained that he would be charged anyway because he had given them a hard time. Mr. Crawford tried to get up to leave the Precinct, but was charged at by about four officers, including Officer Eysel, who pushed his elbow into Mr. Crawford's neck to choke him and put handcuffs on him so tight that Mr. Crawford experienced pain and numbness.
