A defendant officer came up behind him, grabbed him, and yelled “don’t fucking move!” Defendant officers, including Delacruz, Gonzalez, and Nowak beat Darnell with a nightstick and struck him in the head, ribs, knee, and back. Plaintiff Richard Underwood came down the street when he heard Darnell was being beaten and witnessed Delacruz, Gonazales, Nowak and Segerdahl throwing Darnell around and hitting him with the nightstick and heard Darnell scream “Help me!” Defendant officers tried to take Richard’s smartphone and several police officers, including Cornejo and Leonardi surrounded him. An officer grabbed and twisted Richard’s arm and an officer threatened to beat him. Officers, including Cornejo and Leonardi, handcuffed Richard and brought him to the 79th precinct and charged with disorderly conduct. \n\nRichard’s case was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal. Darnell was brought to the station house without shoes. He asked for a drink of water but his request was refused and an officer punched him in the head. Darnell was placed in a straightjacket and brought to the hospital.
