A scuffle broke out at the event and an unidentified person slashed plaintiff's face with a knife, leaving a large cash on plaintiff's right cheek. When the police arrived, despite plaintiff's girlfriend and a friend of plaintiff's identifying the attacker, the police did not question the attacker and allowed him to get in a car and rive away. The police, including defendants (Officers Joseph Battista, Dylan Lynch, and Patrick Lynch, and Detectives Evan Nielsen and Patrick Graney) aggressively questioned plaintiff as he was lying on the ground bleeding from his head. None of the defendants' body cameras recorded their actions, and Officers Battista and Dylan Lynch were aware hours earlier that the batteries on their cameras had died.\n\nThe defendants subsequently directed everyone other than plaintiff to leave the venue, including the nurse who was tending to plaintiff's wound. Once they were alone with plaintiff, the defendants beat and kicked him, while shouting and cursing at him. The beating caused plaintiff to lose consciousness. The defendants then placed plaintiff in a restraint bag - fully enclosing him so that no one could see the physical damage inflicted on him - and took him out to a waiting ambulance. Plaintiff later awoke handcuffed to a hospital bed. Plaintiff's injuries from defendants' attack were severe, including a fracture in his forehead, multiple facial lacerations, constant headaches, memory loss, lightheadedness and dizziness, diminished motor skills, weakness in his right leg such that he now requires a cane to walk, frequent back pain, and a change in mental state. In order to deflect from defendants' attack on plaintiff, defendant Dylan Lynch falsely claimed that he was physically injured by plaintiff and forwarded that information to prosecutors. Defendant Battista also forwarded the same false information to prosecutors, and defendant Patrick Lynch signed off on the false charges. Plaintiff was charged with felony assault of defendant Dylan Lynch, but all charges were subsequently dismissed.","documents":[{"url":"https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.556348/gov.uscourts.nysd.556348.56.0.pdf","type":"complaint"}],"url":"https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/59738511/dominguez-v-city-of-new-york/"},{"name":"Reynolds, Lyman vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2020-07-09","disposition_date":"2021-01-21","payout_amount":15000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"506313/2020","court":"Supreme Court - Kings","officer_name":"Battista, Joseph W.","summary":"On July 4, 2017, Plaintiff went to a boardwalk restaurant to see a hot dog eating contest and enjoy the beach.
