He had returned from work and was speaking with several neighbors and family members. At approximately 10pm, several police cars pulled up and an officer, believed to be a Sergeant, got out. He approached Mr. Reddick and demanded to see his identification. The officer told Mr. Reddick that if he didn’t have identification he was getting locked up. Mr. Reddick explained that he lived with his mother in the building they were standing in front of and showed the officer a paystub from his job. Mr. Reddick’s uncle and neighbors also confirmed that Mr. Reddick lived in the building. Several additional officers began to surround and intimidate Mr. Reddick. Without explanation or cause, Mr. Reddick was placed up against the building, searched, handcuffed and placed inside a police car. Mr. Reddick repeatedly asked why he was being arrested but the officers refused to explain causing incredible fear and confusion. Mr. Reddick was taken to the precinct where he was fingerprinted and photographed. He was transported to Central Booking and eventually released without seeing a judge. The Kings County District Attorney declined to prosecute any charges against him.
