While walking home, they were accosted by an older Jewish man, whom they ignored. Later, plaintiff saw news reporting that he was wanted by the NYPD for an alleged hate crime against the same Jewish man, which included a video of him walking down the sidewalk with his friends. After several threats that the police would arrest him at his home, plaintiff's mother took him to a nearby NYPD precinct to explain his story. \n\nAt the precinct, Defendant NYPD Detective Daniel Zhang refused to believe plaintiff's recounting of events, but admitted to having no evidence for the alleged hate crime other than the same video showing plaintiff walking down the sidewalk. Defendant Zhang handcuffed plaintiff and held him in custody for several hours before releasing him back to his mother without filing any charges. Defendants never retracted the false news reports or made any public statements absolving plaintiff of any suspicion for this alleged crime.","documents":[{"url":"https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nyed.516655/gov.uscourts.nyed.516655.11.0.pdf","type":"complaint"}],"url":"https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/68864992/rs-v-the-city-of-new-york/"},{"name":"Denise Phillips as Administrator For The Estate of Phillips, Daquan vs City of Ny, et al.","start_date":"2018-07-24","disposition_date":"2025-10-27","payout_amount":5000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"513996/2018","court":"Supreme Court - Kings"},{"name":"Jean, Maylouby vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2016-04-25","payout_amount":0,"disposition":"","docket":"500911/2016","court":"Supreme Court - Kings","officer_name":"Zhang, Daniel","summary":"On or about November 2, 2014, defendant NYPD officers Daniel Zhang, Pedro Lopez and Joseph Kaiser, along with unnamed defendant NYPD sergeant Annemarie Murphy, as well as unnamed defendant NYPD officers, repeatedly shot (with handguns), assaulted and battered plaintiff, while subjecting him to an illegal search, and falsely arresting him.
