Plaintiff Gray was on his way to a bodega at West 15th Street and Mermaid Avenue. Outside a laundromat near 1530 Mermaid Avenue, Plaintiff Gray approached Plaintiff Castillo to say hello. Plaintiffs were wearing masks and observing social distancing guidelines. Approximately six NYPD officers, including Officers Nicole Fox, Michael Knott, and other unnamed officers asked the people gathered outside the laundromat to disperse, which Plaintiffs did. Plaintiffs were walking away from the laundromat when the officers stopped them and asked Castillo for identification. Castillo asked why he needed to show identification, as he was doing nothing wrong. The officers began to arrest Castillo, and Gray began to record the interaction with his phone. The officers ordered Gray to stop recording, and arrested him when he insisted he was doing nothing wrong. During their arrests, Plaintiffs were shoved, punched, their heads were slammed into the ground and onto nearby vehicles, and they were tightly cuffed and violently handled by defendant NYPD officers. Plaintiffs were transported to the 60th precinct after being unlawfully searched. At the precinct, Plaintiffs were again unlawfully searched, punched, shoved, and violently handled by the officers. The officers falsely stated to the District Attorney's Office that the plaintiffs were guilty of resisting arrest. After around twelve hours in custody, the plaintiffs were released with desk appearance tickets. The charges against Plaintiffs were dismissed on August 31, 2020.","documents":[{"url":"https://web.archive.org/web/20240912164655/https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=FCVFMFdpt2HJhwlzHdKM8Q==","type":"complaint"}]}],"image":"https://www.50-a.org/images/officer/KBSX-michael-knott.jpg","payroll":{"salary":"109352","regular":"108510","overtime":"33077","other":"17134","total":"158721"},"id":"KBSX","url":"https://www.50-a.org/officer/KBSX"}
