The officers claimed to have observed Mr. McEachin in possession of a controlled substance; however, this assertion was later found to be fabricated. Mr. McEachin was arrested, subjected to a strip search at the 101st Precinct, and detained for over 24 hours before being arraigned and remanded to Rikers Island. He was indicted on November 21, 2013, based on false testimony. After 20 months of legal proceedings, including 24 court appearances, the charges were dismissed on May 29, 2015, following a suppression hearing where the court ruled that the officers lacked probable cause.
