They pulled him off his scooter, causing him to fall and the scooter to land on top of him, resulting in physical injuries and damage to the scooter. The officers then arrested the plaintiff, restraining him with tight metal handcuffs and conducting an unlawful pat-down search. Despite the plaintiff not resisting arrest, the officers brandished their tasers at him in a hostile and threatening manner, causing panic.\n\nThe plaintiff was unlawfully arrested and handcuffed without legal justification or probable cause. He was placed in the back of an NYPD vehicle and transported against his will to the 63rd Precinct, where he was unlawfully fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. He was eventually taken to Kings County Central Booking, where the same procedures were repeated. While in custody, the defendant officers provided the Kings County District Attorney’s Office with false, misleading, and incomplete information, falsely stating that the plaintiff had committed minor traffic offenses, including failure to obey a traffic device and operating a motor vehicle on a sidewalk.","documents":[{"url":"https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=8kCVh1tZ3ibbKlpO78DVrQ==","type":"complaint"}]},{"name":"Baptiste, Erica Jean vs City of Ny, et al.","start_date":"2024-03-21","disposition_date":"2025-07-23","payout_amount":55000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"24CV00798","court":"U.S. District Court - Eastern District NY","summary":"On or about December 22, 2021, Eric Jean Baptiste was approached by four police officers (\"John Doe #1 through John Doe #4\") as he exited a cab in which he had been a passenger. At around this time, plaintiff received a call from her partner that he was being arrested nearby and that the officers were becoming increasingly aggressive. Plaintiff went to the scene and began to record the interaction between the defendant officers and her partner. Defendant officer Anthony Caravana told plaintiff to stop recording and not to touch their vehicle, even if plaintiff has never touched it. As plaintiff continued recording, officer Caravana shoved her in her chest using both hands to grope her breasts. She was then punched in the face and taken to the ground. Plaintiff was thereafter transported to the precinct, and being conducted to a hospital, she was treated for a fractured left middle finger, a facial contusion and a right knee abrasion.
