On his way out of the station, Mr. Broadus was accosted by two of the defendant NYPD officers, who demanded that he hand them his MetroCard, which he did. Mr. Broadus asked if he had done anything wrong, and when he was ignored, he began recording on his phone. One of the defendants slapped the phone out of his hand, which knocked it to the floor and broke it. That defendant then slammed Mr. Broadus against the wall and used his baton to repeatedly beat Mr. Broadus's leg. The other officer called for backup, and other defendant officers arrived at the scene. The defendant who had been beating Mr. Broadus handcuffed him. Since Mr. Broadus could not walk due to the beating of his leg, the defendants dragged him to a police car. During this time, Mr. Broadus was screaming in pain and asking for medical assistance, but the defendants alternately ignored him and made fun of him, and, for a period of time, they left him dumped on the subway station's steps. \nMr. Broadus was brought to a police station, where he was searched, booked, and left for several hours without food, water, or use of a restroom. At one point, when he told one defendant officer that he could not stand due to the pain in his leg, the defendant threatened to tase him if he lied. Mr. Broadus was eventually brought to the hospital, where he was given a knee brace and crutches. When he was leaving the hospital, the officers took away his crutches and shoes, and forced him to hop to the police car. He was then detained overnight in the police station, and then brought to central booking, where he was detained for several hours without food, water, or use of a restroom. On the trip to central booking, the defendants again did not allow Mr. Broadus to use his crutches, claiming he did not need them. On October 21, Mr. Broadus appeared before a judge, was charged with theft of services and resisting arrest, and was released on his own recognizance.
