Mr. Scott did not live there, but was invited there by his fiancee Rosanna Fernandez. Ms. Gennissis Fernandez was a minor at the time and had come home late, so the other plaintiffs were lecturing her. Then, police arrived at the door. Mr. Mejia tried calmly explaining to the officers that everything was okay, but the officers argued and violently burst into the apartment. Mr. Mejia was thrown to the ground and one officer put his knee on Mr. Mejia's back and neck. Ms. Mejia was pushed and grabbed. More than one male officer went into Ms. Gennissis Fernandez's room and stared at her while she was half naked. Mr. Scott was pepper sprayed, tased, and beaten until he lost consciousness. When Mr. Scott regained consciousness, he, Mr. and Ms. Mejia were all handcuffed despite the fact that none of them had engaged in unlawful activity. The officers brought Mr. Scott to the hospital and lied about him being an EDP.\n\nMs. Mejia was released without being brought to the precinct. She was issued a criminal summons that was never served on her. This resulted in a bench warrant out for Ms. Mejia, which interfered with her citizenship application. Mr. Scott and Mr. Mejia had to make multiple court appearances before the false charges against them were dropped and sealed. Mr. Scott experiences lingering physical effects from being beaten by the officers.","documents":[{"url":"https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4922063-Scott-et-al-v-The-City-Of-New-York-et-al"},{"url":"https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nyed.381615/gov.uscourts.nyed.381615.87.0.pdf","type":"complaint"},{"url":"https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4922064-Scott-et-al-v-The-City-Of-New-York-et-al"}],"url":"https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/4520735/scott-v-the-city-of-new-york/"},{"officer_name":"Coppola, Anthony","disposition":"Settlement","start_date":"2010-12-10","disposition_date":"2013-05-07","court":"U.S. District Court - Eastern District NY","docket":"10CV05187","name":"Gilliard, Richard vs City of New York, et al.","payout_amount":40000,"url":"https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/5661047/gilliard-v-city-of-new-york/"}],"payroll":{"salary":"105606","regular":"105305","overtime":"0","other":"21978","total":"127282"},"id":"N83F","url":"https://www.50-a.org/officer/N83F"}
