Without warning, the Defendant police officers aggressively approached Plaintiff and proceeded to push, choke, tackle, and handcuff her. They did so with no articulate reason or suspicion that Plaintiff was committing a crime or violating the law. After handcuffing her, the Defendant police officers slammed Plaintiff McClinton against the police vehicle; this led her to sustain multiple torn ligaments in her knee. The Defendants moved her to the precinct and detained her. Although she asked multiple times for medical care due to the resulting injuries from Defendants’ assault, the Defendants refused to provide medical attention. During a transfer to another precinct for booking, the necessary medical attention became obvious because Plaintiff had to be forcibly dragged to the transportation car - still, Defendants refused to provide medical attention. Plaintiff was arraigned and charged with a baseless claim of assaulting a police officer; upon her release from custody, she went to the emergency room and received a cast, cane, and later surgery for the injuries caused by Defendants. On August 19, 2019, all charges against Plaintiff McClinton were dismissed. She still receives physical therapy and can no longer work as a child care provider because of the injuries to her knee.","documents":[{"url":"https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=3jDlDFWOL4RRkPTGzBIKjw==","type":"complaint"}]},{"name":"Padilla, Nancy vs City of New York","start_date":"2016-03-25","disposition_date":"2018-05-03","payout_amount":17500,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"300190/2016","court":"Supreme Court - Bronx","officer_name":"Nolasco, Juan L.","summary":"On June 8, 2016, Plaintiff Padilla was lawfully walking along a sidewalk with a friend when two police officers drove up to them and immediately questioned, searched, and detained Padilla and her friend without cause or justification. She was taken to the nearby precinct and strip searched without justification. Police Officers Thomas Diggs, Melvin Thomas, and two unnamed, as well as Police Sergeant Dervent Williams, were involved in conducting the strip search and later providing false information to the prosecutor. Plaintiff was searched and handcuffed in front of several neighbors, and defendants proceeded to search Plaintiff's vehicle in front of Plaintiff's wife and two minor children. Plaintiff was transported to the 42nd Precinct where he was searched again. Defendant Sergeant Eric Beckel approved the arrest and charges. Plaintiff was then transferred to Central Booking where he was searched for a third time, and publicly arraigned in criminal court on charges for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, and his bail was set at $150,000.
