The officers unlawfully searched the plaintiffs with no reasonable suspicion or lawful basis to do so and recovered no contraband from the plaintiffs, yet placed the plaintiffs in handcuffs and took them to the police precinct under arrest. At the precinct, the officers falsely informed the DA’s Office that the plaintiffs said they had committed certain crimes/offenses when in fact the plaintiffs never made such statements. The allegations made by the officers to the DA’s Office were false, and the officers knew they were false at the time. The officers then forwarded these false allegations to the DA’s Office in order to justify their false arrest and persuade the DA’s Office to criminally prosecute the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs were then transported and held in dirty, cramped, and dangerous holding cells. One of the plaintiffs was released after 20 hours in custody—all of the charges against him were not prosecuted.
