The incident was based solely on their race, national origins, and other racial profiling characteristics. Prior to the arrest, the plaintiffs received calls from the 45th precinct, asking them to come in to discuss an accident that occurred on March 11, 2019, involving Ms. Perez and Mr. Garcia, with Mr. Figueroa co-signing the loan for the 2018 Honda Accord. Upon arrival, the plaintiffs were accused of committing a crime without probable cause, handcuffed excessively tightly, searched, and arrested without valid reasons. They were placed in a cell for approximately eight hours, with requests for food and water denied.\n\nFollowing their time at the precinct, the plaintiffs were taken to Central Booking, where they remained for about 20 hours, wrongfully detained for approximately two days. The defendants fabricated evidence and falsely accused the plaintiffs of insurance fraud, attempted grand larceny, and attempted petit larceny. The plaintiffs were compelled to return to court numerous times until December 17, 2019, when the Bronx County Criminal Court unconditionally dismissed the charges against them. Defendants who were present but not physically involved failed to intervene.","documents":[{"url":"https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=viAsrgjd2AvDf7df/0vPWQ==","type":"complaint"}]},{"name":"Deluna, Osvlado vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2017-04-20","disposition_date":"2020-05-13","payout_amount":10000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"300841/2017","court":"Supreme Court - Bronx","officer_name":"Bocachica, Ricardo"},{"name":"Grooms, Renard vs City of New York","start_date":"2016-02-01","disposition_date":"2017-06-20","payout_amount":50000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"304700/2015","court":"Supreme Court - Bronx","officer_name":"Bocachica, Ricardo","documents":[{"url":"https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4928517-Grooms-v-City-of-New-York-et-al"}]},{"name":"Williams, Rhonda vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2016-01-20","disposition_date":"2016-09-27","payout_amount":20864.8,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"16CV00233","court":"U.S. District Court - Southern District NY","officer_name":"Bocachica, Ricardo","summary":"Plaintiff was walking down the street and saw some acquaintances that she said hi to.
