The mother of two of the Plaintiffs was also in the car.  A marked NYPD vehicle pulled them over without justification or cause. POs Fernandez, Martinez, and unnamed PO 1 stepped out of the NYPD vehicle and approached Plaintiffs' car. Despite the POs having no legal justification, they requested identification from everyone in the car, and everyone in the car complied. When Plaintiffs asked why they were pulled over, the POs indicated that the tree-shaped air-freshener hanging from the car's rear-view mirror was obstructing the driver's view—likely a pretextual reason for performing the traffic stop.\n\nSeveral other NYPD vehicles and officers arrived at the scene, including unnamed POs 2-7, despite no crimes having been committed. Nonetheless, the POs pulled Plaintiffs out of the car, handcuffed them, and proceeded to search them and the car without probable cause. POs Fernandez, Martinez, and/or an unknown number of POs 1-7 slammed Plaintiffs against the hood of the nearby police vehicles, sat Plaintiffs on the ground, and then transported them to a nearby precinct. They were left in their handcuffs for approximately 5-7 hours. When two of the Plaintiffs arrived at the precinct, they asked unnamed POs 8-15 why they had been arrested. In response, one of POs 8-15 and PO Marmara told Plaintiffs to, essentially, \"shut the f--k up,\" and POs 8-15 brutally attacked the Plaintiffs while the mother of two of the Plaintiffs watched. POs 8-15 knocked Plaintiffs down and repeatedly punched them and kicked them, slamming one of the Plaintiffs' heads against a glass partition, all while they were handcuffed and defenseless.\n\nWhen the third Plaintiff arrived at the precinct, sometime after the first two, he asked the PO Marmara and PO 8-15 why he had been arrested. In response, one or more of POs 8-15 and/or PO Marmara punched him repeatedly in the head and stomach, threw him on the floor, and slammed his head against the wall, causing him to vomit. He requested that the POs transfer him to a hospital, which POs 8-15 and PO Marmara denied.\n\nAt around midnight on February 2, 2013, Plaintiffs were transported to Queens Central Booking and held until the next afternoon. The POs caused baseless charges to be brought against Plaintiffs, none of which Plaintiffs actually committed. Over the course of these charges, PO Aid Wheeler falsely swore out the criminal complaint, and PO Fernandez falsely swore out the supporting deposition.
