The officers searched the plaintiff by patting her down and going through her pockets. The officers also searched through the plaintiff’s purse and motor vehicle. The officers then handcuffed and formally arrested the plaintiff, again without a warrant, probable cause, reasonable suspicion, permission, or other justification. The officers continued to forcibly detain the plaintiff against her will at various locations, including a police van and precinct, until the plaintiff was released from custody the next day. The plaintiff repeatedly complained that her handcuffs were too tight and that she was in pain while she was in custody, but the officers refused to loosen the handcuffs. The officers then charged the plaintiff with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree despite knowing that the plaintiff was innocent. The charge against the plaintiff was later dismissed, and the criminal proceeding resulted in a termination favorable to the plaintiff. All of this led to physical, emotional, and economic harm to the plaintiff.","documents":[{"url":"https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=o4vnOywT5qOyO8QApIvpEQ==","type":"complaint"}]},{"name":"Flowers, Antoine vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2015-06-30","disposition_date":"2018-07-05","payout_amount":50000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"301373/2015","court":"Supreme Court - Bronx","officer_name":"Vanweddinger, Christopher"},{"name":"Harris, Sherman vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2013-12-05","disposition_date":"2014-04-24","payout_amount":26500,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"13CV08126","court":"U.S. District Court - Southern District NY","officer_name":"Vanweddinger, Christopher","summary":"On August 17, 2012, at approximately 5:30pm, in the vicinity of 171st Street, Bronx, NY, Plaintiff SHERMAN HARRIS, along with three other individuals, was a passenger in a friend's car on his way home from visiting family in the area.
