Llakatura, an active-duty officer at the time, was involved in extortion schemes targetting various small business owners, including Mr. Dimou. Despite being aware of Llakatura's criminal activities, other NYPD officers present, identified as John Does 1-10 from the 120th Precinct, failed to intervene or protect Dimou, allowing the assault to take place.\n\nThe assault was part of a broader extortion operation, and Llakatura was later convicted of Hobbs Act Extortion Conspiracy, among other charges, and sentenced to 171 months in prison. Dimou suffered physical injuries as a result of the assault and alleges that the City of New York, the NYPD, and the involved officers were negligent in supervising and controlling Llakatura. Additionally, Dimou claims that the defendants violated his civil rights under various federal statutes, including 42 USC 1983, by failing to prevent the assault and by fostering an environment that allowed Llakatura's extortion scheme to thrive.\n\nDimou seeks compensatory and punitive damages for the physical, emotional, and economic harm he suffered, as well as legal costs.","documents":[{"url":"https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=kfaJPUg2wuiLcedltc8ptw==","type":"complaint"}]},{"name":"Gray, Roderick vs City of New York, et al.","start_date":"2013-11-01","disposition_date":"2014-10-27","payout_amount":75000,"disposition":"Settlement","docket":"13CV05515","court":"U.S. District Court - Eastern District NY","officer_name":"Llakatura, Besnik","summary":"On October 6, 2010, an NYPD Officer believed to be Officer Salvatore Sacco cursed at Plaintiff, who responded in kind. Later on, Plaintiff was approached by Officer Sacco and his partner Officer \"John\" Anderson. Officer Sacco asked Plaintiff to repeat himself and Plaintiff obliged. Officer Sacco responded with a racial slur, pulled Plaintiff out of his vehicle, and assaulted Plaintiff along with his partner and Officers Dominick Latorre, Besnik Llakatura, and \"John\" Santoro, who had arrived separately. Plaintiff was slammed against his vehicle, punched in the face and ribs, and thrown to the ground, where he was struck repeatedly in the back and handcuffed. Once in handcuffs, Plaintiff was picked up and forced face down on the hood of his vehicle, which burned his face due to its hot surface. Officer Sacco then forcefully twisted Plaintiff's arm. After his arrest and transportation to the precinct, Plaintiff repeatedly asked for medical treatment but was never provided with said treatment. NYPD Sergeants Bruce Ceparano and Gregory Pernicone approved of Plaintiff's arrest. On October 7, 2010, Plaintiff was transported to Richmond County Criminal Court where officers refused to arraign him unless he received medical treatment.","documents":[{"url":"https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nyed.347656/gov.uscourts.nyed.347656.1.0.pdf","type":"complaint"}],"url":"https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/13138406/gray-v-city-of-new-york/"},{"officer_name":"Llakatura, Besnik","disposition":"Settlement","start_date":"2011-06-02","disposition_date":"2013-12-11","court":"Supreme Court - Richmond","docket":"101799/2011","name":"Ramirez, Miguel By Mng Molina, Yolanda vs Cerventes-Simon, D.m., et al.","payout_amount":30000},{"officer_name":"Llakatura, Besnik","disposition":"Settlement","start_date":"2010-09-10","disposition_date":"2014-05-14","court":"Supreme Court - Richmond","docket":"101985/2010","name":"Galvin, Colleen vs Cervantes-Simon, Diane M., et al.","payout_amount":175000}],"documents":[{"url":"https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24441170-bronx-notified-officers-list-edited_redacted-redacted_redacted","type":"credibility-finding"}],"is_credibility":true,"news":[{"title":"NYPD cop pleads guilty to shaking down Queens pizzeria","url":"http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/nypd-pleads-guilty-shaking-queens-pizzeria-article-1.2467080","source":"New York Daily News","date":"2015-12-15"},{"title":"NYPD cop and reputed gangster arrested for shaking down Queens restaurant owner: prosecutors","url":"http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/nypd-arrested-shaking-restaurant-owner-prosecutors-article-1.1536045","source":"New York Daily News","date":"2013-12-03"}],"id":"UA4T","url":"https://www.50-a.org/officer/UA4T"}
