Defendant Officers then restrained Plaintiff with metal handcuffs and arrested him for no reason, claiming he had just committed a robbery despite having been detained at Rikers since March 2020. At no point did Plaintiff resist arrest, nor did he commit a crime or behave in any manner that gave police officers any basis to believe he had committed or was committing a crime. Plaintiff was transported to the precinct where he was fingerprinted, photographed and detained in a holding cell. Defendant Officer Cordero falsely stated to the District Attorney's Office that Plaintiff had committed several crimes, including robbery, petit larceny and criminal possession of a weapon, despite knowing he lacked a legal and factual basis to allege such crimes. After 24 hours in custody, Plaintiff was arraigned and bail was set. He was detained for another 24 hours before being bailed out.
