The officers refused to leave and instead called for an ambulance. She was upset by the situation but was not acting erratically. The plaintiff insisted she did not need medical attention and did not want to go to the hospital. The officers jumped on the plaintiff, twisted her arms behind her back, and handcuffed her. The plaintiff complained that the handcuffs were causing her pain but the officers refused to remove the handcuffs. She was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation where the doctor determined she did not exhibit homicidal or suicidal ideation.
