At the intersection of East 136th Street and Brook Avenue in the Bronx, she and the rest of the protesters were blocked from advancing further by police officers in riot gear. The officers ordered the protesters to disperse but simultaneously prevented them from doing so by surrounding them on all sides. The officers charged the protesters. Ms. Shiver was repeatedly punched in the torso by an unidentified male officer who proceeded to grab her by the hair and slam her face-first into the pavement. Another officer began to punch her in the back and upper legs. The officers cuffed Ms. Shiver with plastic zip ties while kneeling on her back. Ms. Shiver never committed any crime nor did she resist the officers. She was taken to the 40th Precinct where Officer Rodriguez searched her backpack. After an hour, Ms. Shiver and the rest of the protesters were transported to 1 Police Plaza, where Ms. Shiver was fingerprinted, photographed, searched, and detained, still in zip cuffs.
