Ourlicht, David vs City of New York, et al.
Case # 19CV03651,
U.S. District Court - Eastern District NY, June 26, 2019, ended January 31, 2020
$17,501 Settlement
Complaint
Description: On March 23, 2018, David Ourlicht, a law graduate with the Legal Aid Society, was stopped, questioned, frisked, and searched by Officers Griffith and Stembridge under the belief that Ourlicht was smoking marijuana. Despite finding nothing, the officers placed Ourlicht in tight handcuffs and arrested him for possession of marijuana and smoking in public. After being searched yet again at the precinct, Ourlicht was told that he was being charged only with destruction of evidence. Upon discovering that Ourlicht worked in the courts, the officers told him that this incident would not have happened had they known. After six hours spent in custody, Ourlicht was released due to a declination to prosecute.
