Description: On or about June 28, 2019, Joey Hernandez was approached by NYPD officers, including Officer John Manzo, near the intersection of East 153rd Street and Melrose Avenue in the Bronx. Hernandez alleges that he was not involved in any illegal activity when he was stopped, searched, and detained by the officers without probable cause or legal justification. During the arrest, excessive force was used, including tight handcuffing and aggressive physical restraint. While in custody, he was strip-searched and detained for over 24 hours. Hernandez was falsely charged with a crime, but the charges were ultimately dismissed. As a result of the incident, he claims to have suffered physical injuries and emotional distress.
