Case # 504257/2021, Supreme Court - Kings, February 25, 2021, ended July 31, 2025
$10,000 Settlement
Complaint
Description: On January 16, 2020, John Ayala was lawfully upon the intersection of Nassau Street and Duffield Street in Kings County. Mr. Ayala was then detained by Police Officer Anthony Sideratos before being falsely, unjustly and without cause, arrested. The arrest and detention continued thereafter at the 84th Precinct. Without probable cause or a reasonable basis to believe Mr. Ayala committed such a crime, the defendants committed a misuse of legal procedure when they initiated the prosecution of Mr. Ayala for two counts of PL 220.03 - criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. On July 13, 2020, the charges against Mr. Ayala were dismissed.
