Description: On August 11, 2019, at around 12:30 a.m., Mr. Smith was walking with friends near 849 Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn when he was assaulted and arrested by NYPD officers without justification or probable cause. Officers in an unmarked vehicle followed the group and singled out Mr. Smith, allegedly due to his race or other protected status. One of the officers, believed to be Lt. Martin McKinney, used vulgar language, pushed Mr. Smith, and, along with other officers, applied excessive force, causing injuries. Mr. Smith was placed in overly tight handcuffs, despite not resisting arrest. Description: On December 6, 2015, plaintiff had called the police after her former boyfriend forced his way into her apartment. Defendant police officers unlawfully arrested plaintiff, placed her in excessively tight handcuffs and pushed their way into the apartment. Defendant officers then searched the apartment without permission or authorization. While plaintiff was being transported to the precinct, she suffered an illness but defendant officers did not take her to the hospital. Plaintiff was wrongfully charged and had all charges against her dismissed.
