Jones, Shakeba vs City of New York, et al.
Case # 519261/2018, Supreme Court - Kings, January 9, 2019, ended November 30, 2020
$7,000 Settlement
Complaint
Description: On or about April 18, 2017, Shakeba Jones was arrested in Brooklyn by officers from the Narcotics Borough Brooklyn North, including Detectives Samuel Lallava and Edward Najarro. The officers, acting without a warrant or probable cause, forcibly detained and handcuffed Jones. She was then transported to the 75th Precinct, where she was subjected to a strip search. The officers involved falsely reported to the District Attorney that Jones had committed various crimes, resulting in her prosecution. However, all charges were dismissed in her favor on July 17, 2017. As a result of the arrest, Jones suffered both physical injuries, including wrist marks from excessively tight handcuffs, and emotional distress.
