Case # 13CV03547, U.S. District Court - Southern District NY, July 15, 2013, ended September 11, 2014
$60,001 Settlement
Complaint, Amended Complaint, Judgment
Description: On June 2, 2011 Plaintiff Freddie Charles was exiting a bodega near E 167th St and Clay Ave in the Bronx when he was shoved from behind by one of the defendant officers. Plaintiff was then immediately put in handcuffs that were excessively tight and transported to the precinct. No officers responded to his requests to loosen the handcuffs. Defendant officers, including officer Maria Brito, then falsified reports of disorderly conduct, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest which the DA declined to prosecute. Plaintiff was held in custody for over 30 hours.
