Description: On or about January 15, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Jacquite Tayvela was lawfully present at a Check Cashing Plaza in Brooklyn, New York, when she was approached by NYPD officers, including PO Alyssa R. Strong and Lieutenant Julian A. Coston. The officers unlawfully searched, falsely arrested, and used excessive force on Tayvela, accusing her of attempting to cash a fraudulent check despite having no reasonable suspicion. Tayvela provided proof of her employment and a copy of the check, but the officers continued with the arrest, using excessive force. Plaintiff was approaching 54th Street and 5th Avenue, where he intended to turn left onto 5th Avenue, when he was stopped by Officer Larregui at the intersection of 54th Street and 5th Avenue. Officer Larregui demanded Plaintiff's license and registration, and five seconds later attempted to open Plaintiff's locked door.
