Description: On September 13, 2021, Plaintiffs Anees Hasnain and Luis Mejia were peacefully participating in a protest near the Metropolitan Museum of Art when they were unlawfully detained and arrested by Defendant NYPD officers. Officer Albergo violently grabbed Plaintiff Hasnain's head, slamming her to the ground, causing her to lose consciousness and sustain a concussion. Simultaneously, Plaintiff Mejia was dragged to the ground and injured, with his arm forcibly extended, causing damage to his left elbow and arm. Complaint
Description: Plaintiff was walking from McDonald to his car when stopped by defendant officers. Defendant officers demanded plaintiff to hand in his pocket knife and plaintiff complied. Defendant officers then assaulted plaintiff, chocked him, and placed him under arrest and brought plaintiff to the 34th precinct, where plaintiff was charged with assault in the second degree. When held in police custody, plaintiff was refused to get medical treatment and when plaintiff was later sent to the hospital, the nurses refused to take pictures of his injuries at the request of the supervisor. The ADA declined to prosecute the case.
