Case # 17CV04347, U.S. District Court - Eastern District NY, December 11, 2017, ended March 27, 2018
$25,000 Settlement
Complaint
Description: Plaintiff was stopped with three female friends on a subway and was instructed to exit at the next stop. As the officers began to get aggressive with one of his female friends, the plaintiff began recording the events on his phone. Officers then arrested the plaintiff and handcuffed him tightly. When he was taken back to a precinct, the plaintiff informed the officers that his brother worked at the NYPD and asked to call him. He was given his phone to call his brother, and returned the phone unlocked. Officers then allegedly deleted footage that the plaintiff had recorded earlier. Plaintiff was then charged with obstructing governmental justice.
