Description: This class action asserts that NYPD Officers have engaged in a regular practice of bringing individuals who have warrants directly to Riker's Island and City Jails instead of taking them to the courts to adjudicate the warrant as required by Criminal Procedure Law Section 530.70. The Department of Correction is likewise engaged in a regular practice of accepting individuals into custody without a judicial order. As a result of directly bringing individuals to jail without a process in place to the person to go to court they are effectively sentenced to an indefinite detention.
