Subsequently, the defendant DA upon discovering the illegal search of the plaintiff's cellphone, defended the search. The jury convicted the plaintiff of attempted murder, conspiracy, intimidating a victim or a witness, and criminal possession of a weapon, and sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. 12 years into a prison sentence, the charges were dismissed.
