Description: Note: Class action lawsuit. In June of 2012, plaintiff Elsayed, an observant Muslim woman who wears a hijab, was arrested and forced to remove her hijab while being photographed at the 62nd Precinct and at Central Booking. Plaintiff requested that a female officer take her fingerprints since physical contact with men outside of her family is against her religious beliefs, but her request was denied. In April of 2014, plaintiff was arrested again and was forced to remove her hijab. On March 14, plaintiff was arrested for allegedly driving with a suspended license and was taken to Brooklyn Court Section, where she was forced to remove her hijab and was mocked by male NYPD officers.
