Description: On January 18, 2021, both plaintiffs in this action attended a Black Lives Matter protest march across the Brooklyn Bridge and to City Hall in Manhattan. Members of the NYPD surrounded the protestors upon their arrival. The first plaintiff in this action, a Black nonbinary person, was pushed off the sidewalk. NYPD officers utilized barricades to trap plaintiff and other protestors. Two unidentified officers threw plaintiff to the ground. Six officers then surrounded them as two officers beat and kneeled on plaintiff, putting pressure on their back. Description: On or about July 29, 2018, police officers Johnson and John Doe 1-5 assaulted Musii Vasile-Marian. Vasile-Marian and his friends were at the backyard of Vasile-Marian's apartment, 1425 Vyse Ave. of Bronx, barbecuing when a neighbor continued to come into Vasile-Marian's barbecue area. The neighbor then contacted the police, claiming that Vasile-Marian's brother pushed her. When the officers arrived, Vasile-Marian decided to assist the officers in the investigation as a translator for his brother as his brother does not speak English.
