Description: On April 8, 2014, at approximately 12:20 p.m., Plaintiff was shopping in the Costco Store located at 976 Third Avenue in Brooklyn. Plaintiff purchased and paid for several items totaling $718. A “Loss Prevention Agent” working at Costco prevented Plaintiff from leaving the store, accused him of shoplifting, and detained him in the Costco detention area. Costco engages in a pattern and practice of profiling African American shoppers as suspected criminals.
