Description: On August 10, 2015, John Aponte was in his Staten Island apartment. Officers arrived at the apartment to investigate a domestic violence issue. While Aponte was talking to officers at his front door, Officer Kanbur slammed Aponte against a wall and placed him in a chokehold. As Kanbur was strangling Aponte, Officer Kanbur's partner grabbed Aponte's right arm. Witnesses report that the officers were told frame Aponte as the instigator in the incident report. Aponte went to two hospitals for treatment, where he underwent two separate psychiatric evaluations.
