Description: On or about May 17, 2016, plaintiff Reginald Simpkins was stopped and arrested by NYPD Officer Timothy Cote, along with six uniformed and two plainclothes officers, at 209 Schaefer St. in Brooklyn, New York, for alleged trespassing. Simpkins was charged with several felonies, arraigned, and held on bail, leading to his detention at Rikers Island for 5-6 days. During the arrest, Simpkins claims his property was destroyed during an unlawful search conducted without a warrant. As a result of the misconduct, Simpkins asserts that he suffered physical and emotional harm, including emotional distress, panic attacks, and lasting mental anguish.
