Complaint
Description: On May 15, 2016, at about 4:00 a.m., Plaintiffs (both black) were walking on the street at about 110 9th Avenue in Manhattan when they were stopped by NYPD officer Jeffery Mathis and 19 unidentified NYPD officers. Despite not having a warrant or lawful reason, Plaintiffs were arrested and handcuffed by the NYPD officer. Upon arriving at the jail, Plaintiffs were subjected to a humiliating search and were deprived of all money and personal belongings. Plaintiffs were incarcerated in a cell. After many days, Plaintiffs were released from jail and custody. Because Plaintiffs had done nothing wrong, the New York County District Attorney’s office declined to prosecute them.
