Description: On December 21st, 2017 plaintiff was coming out of the courtroom with her lawyer when Detective John Steel handcuffed, unlawfully arrested and took her to the 109th Precinct without probable cause. Once there plaintiff, who is claustrophobic, was confined to a little room with no windows until she was moved to a cell. She was later transferred to Central Booking where she was held for over 24 hours and was subject to verbal abuse, fear and humiliation. Due to the excessive amount of time the arraignment and subsequent appearances took, plaintiff lost precious time with her mother who is unwell.

Description: On September 8, 2017, at approximately 4pm inside of 57-12 164th Street, Queens, Silvia Cobas called 911 to report a dispute with fellow building tenant Mr. Borges. In response to the call, Officers Farley and Ransunain came. Cobas alleged that Mr. Borges had banged on her door and made threats because Mr. Borges believed one of Ms. Cobas’ children blocked his parking spot. The officers observed Ms. Cobas’ undamaged front door, made a brief investigation, and left without doing anything else. Ms. Cobas, unhappy with the officers’ inaction, went to file a false police report in the 109th precinct regarding the same incident.
