Description: On or around March 17, 2022, while Plaintiff was detained in the custody of the NYPD, police officers (their names were unknown at the time the complaint was filed) failed to take necessary and appropriate steps to protect Plaintiff from a foreseeable and preventable assault by another detainee. The PO in charge of the holding area knew that the person who attacked Plaintiff was dangerous and behaving erratically. Indeed, before the detainee assaulted Plaintiff by hitting him in the head, POs were antagonizing and verbally provoking the assaulter, and he had been threatening to commit violence. Yet, the assaulter was kept in the same cell as Plaintiff.
